Service Update – HeinOnline is Migrating to a New Server on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. EDT

On Monday August 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM EDT we will be migrating to a new HeinOnline Server to improve server performance.  This server change should have little impact on your organization’s access to HeinOnline unless you are using an IP address to access HeinOnline instead of the domain name of heinonline.org.  If your organization accesses HeinOnline through a Proxy Server, you may be using an IP address in your proxy configuration which will cause some issues accessing the database.  If your proxy configuration references  HeinOnline as “*.heinonline.org” and not by it’s IP address, you should not experience any problems.  If you do experience problems, please forward this to your Technical Support team to review the proxy configuration.  If the proxy is referencing *.heinonline.org and you are still experiencing problems, please contact us at techsupport@wshein.com.

Special Note to customers who use Shibboleth Authentication:
With this server migration, there are a few changes that will impact researchers using Shibboleth authentication.
1.    The first change can be seen on the HeinOnline login page. Currently, on the HeinOnline login screen you select your institution’s identity provider from a pull-down and then click on the Authenticate button:

After migrating to the new server on Monday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m., on the login screen you will first have to click the link “Click here for UK Federation and OpenAthens login” before you will be able to select your identity provider:

Once you click the above link you will be able to select your identity provider as usual:

2.    The second change will affect you only if your organization uses a WAYFless URL to gain access to HeinOnline, that URL will be changing.

Here is an example of a current WAYFless URL which uses Protect Networks as it’s Identity Provider:
https://idp.protectnetwork.org/protectnetwork-idp/SSO?shire=https%3A%2F%2Fheinonline.org%2FShibboleth.sso%2FSAML%2FPOST&target=https://heinonline.org/HOL/secure/shibboleth-login&providerId=https%3A%2F%2Fheinonline.org%2Fshibboleth

Here is an example of a new WAYFless URL which also uses Protect Networks as it’s Identity Provider:
https://heinonline.org/HOL/oa/login?entityID=https://idp.protectnetwork.org/protectnetwork-idp

The general form of the new WAYFless URL for HeinOnline is:
https://heinonline.org/HOL/oa/login?entityID= [INSERT YOUR IDENTITY PROVIDER]
