Score Great Results with the HeinOnline Hat Trick and ScholarRank!

FAQ, ScholarCheck, What's New
Shannon Furtak

One of our main goals at HeinOnline is not only to provide an incredible collection of historical and current documents, but also to offer legal scholars an innovative and thorough research experience. Several enhancements that we've made over the past few months join together to create the HeinOnline Hat Trick. We have also developed a ranking system for articles that are frequently accessed and heavily cited by both articles and cases, and we are calling this system ScholarRank. These new features are part of HeinOnline's ScholarCheck, a set of tools which compiles the most-cited journals and authors, displays the number of articles and cases that cite the current article, enables users to sort search results by the number of times an article has been cited by other articles or cases, and enables users to link between cited documents in HeinOnline. HeinOnline Hat Trick The HeinOnline Hat Trick is comprised of three ways of categorizing and sorting articles: by number of times cited by articles, number of times cited by cases, and number of times accessed by other HeinOnline users within a rolling 12-month period. All HeinOnline subscribers have the ability to both view and sort search results by number of times cited by articles and number of times accessed, as well as link to the list of articles that cite the current article: Subscribers with access to the features of Fastcase Premium also have the ability to view and sort the same search results by number of times cited by cases:

This Hat Trick helps users locate the most relevant and accurate articles pertaining to their research topic. Users can see which articles are trending in HeinOnline and which articles are the most heavily-cited by cases and articles, and then easily link to those cases and articles for a complete research experience. ScholarRank Using the three features discussed above, we have run an analysis that we call ScholarRank. We gathered all articles in HeinOnline's Law Journal Library and ranked them in each category. We then averaged the rankings to produce this list of the 50 articles that scored the highest when averaging all categories:
