As many of you know, we have been hard at work refreshing the appearance of HeinOnline's interface, and we would like to know what you think of our efforts! Of course, several features are still in development stages, but the design and basic functionality are ready to be unveiled to our customers. We welcome and appreciate both positive feedback and constructive criticism.
Let's take a look at what's going on with the Confederate flag situation down south. After the recent tragedy at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina, debates continue over whether or not the controversial Confederate flag should be displayed on Capitol grounds in South Carolina. To find out what legal scholars have written about the Confederate flag, perform a full text search from the enhanced HeinOnline Welcome Page for the phrase "Confederate flag":
The search results are fairly broad, so we can make our search more specific by adding another phrase. Let's try "Confederate flag" AND "South Carolina". Since the search bar stays conveniently at the top of the page, simply add the extra terms and click the search button again. This list of results is a bit more manageable, but if we are interested in material where most references pertain to the Confederate flag in direct relation to South Carolina, we can perform a proximity search: "Confederate flag South Carolina"~10. This search produces only results where these four terms occur within 10 words of one another, so the list of results is narrowed significantly:
Notice the clean appearance of the search results and options, like PDF/Download and MyHein. ScholarCheck information is still present in search results, and users are able to narrow search results further using the familiar facets on the left side of the screen. Matching text pages will continue to be highlighted inside search results.
The page display in the enhanced interface is modernized and the function remains the same. Search terms will still be highlighted throughout the document. The image toolbar is user-friendly and up to date:
To find an article with "Confederate flag" in the title, simply enter title:"Confederate flag" in the full text search bar. You will receive these results, which all deal heavily with our search topic:
HeinOnline's interface will be responsive, which means that the display will adjust based on the size of the user's screen, making HeinOnline more mobile-friendly:
HeinOnline is already a great first choice for your legal research needs, but the refreshed interface will enhance the database's power and greatly improve user experience.
