Back in October, we updated researchers on the content that was released in the World Constitutions Illustrated database from July to September 2020. Read below to find out what new documents have been added to this ever-growing database.

Update from October 2020 to Date

Since our last content news update, we have updated 17 countries and added 93 new titles to the World Constitutions Illustrated database.

Brazil

We have added Professor Keith Rosenn’s updated translations concerning the Constitution of 1988 as amended to Constitutional Amendment No. 108. Included are the current consolidated texts of the Constitution and of the ADCT, the complete collection of the amendments, and his commentary.

Chad

Our own translation of the first Constitution of the Republic of Chad (1950) is now available.

Chile

We have updated our current translation of the Constitution of 1980 as codified in 2005, and as amended by Laws Nos. 21.253, 21.257, 212.261, and all of 2020.

Additionally, we have added the Thirtieth and Thirty-first Transitory Provisions of the Constitution of 1980 as codified in 2005, amended by Law No. 21.296 of December 4, 2020. We include the text of the amending law from the Library of the National Congress and the Diario Oficial, and the former’s current consolidated text. We have also updated our own current translation accordingly.

Cyprus

We have added six Greek documents, including the texts of the 11th-15th Amendments and the current consolidated text of the Constitution of 1960 as amended to 2020. English translations of the amending laws have not yet been made available at the Offices of the Law Commissioner of Cyprus.

Germany

The Basic Law of the Federal Republic of 1949 was further amended by the Law of September 20, 2020, BGBl 1 s. 2048. We include the text of the amending law from the Bundesgesetzblatt, and the current consolidated texts of the Bundestag, and of the Federal Ministry of Justice. The Bundestag has yet to update their English translation.

India

The current consolidated text of the Constitution of 1949/1950 as amended through the 104th amendment Act of 2019 is now available, provided by The Ministry of Law and Justice.

Italy

The current consolidated Italian text of the Constitution of 1947 as amended on October 19, 2007, is now available from the Italian Parliament’s Portal Normativa.

Kiribati

The Constitution of 1979 was further amended by the Constitution (Amendment) Act, 2018. The text of the amending law has been now been added.The current consolidated Italian text of the Constitution of 1947 as amended on October 19, 2007, is now available from the Italian Parliament’s Portal Normativa.

Kosovo

The Constitution of 2008 was further amended by Law No. 07-V-058 of September 25, 2020. We have included the text of the amending law in Albanian, Bosnian, English, Serbian and Turkish.

Malta

The Constitution of 1964 was further amended by Acts Nos. XLI and LV of 2020. We have added the texts of the amending laws in both English and Maltese, as well as the current consolidated text in both languages from the Ministry of Justice.

Mexico

The Constitution of 1917 was further amended by the Decree adopted December 3, 2020, and promulgated on December 17, 2020. We have added the Spanish text of the amending law from the Diario Oficial, and the current consolidated text of the Chamber of Deputies. There are 3 additional amending laws pending. Our updated translation will be added next month.

Moldova

Concerning the Constitution of 1994, we have added the texts of the amending laws of 2016, 2017 and 2018 in both Romanian and Russian. In addition, we have added the consolidated text for the 2017 amendment in Romanian, Russian and English, and the 2018 current amendment in Romanian and Russian.

New Zealand

We have added 24 reprints and two original texts to the collection of statutory acts governing constitutional matters in New Zealand. These include the Criminal Cases Review Commission Act of 2019, which is now available in the collection for the first time.

Nicaragua

We have included 16 documents from the Diario Oficial, La Gaceta. These include the official Spanish texts of earlier constitutions and amending laws covering the period 1896 to 1979.

Samoa

The Parliament of Samoa has produced a new iteration of the Constitution’s consolidated text of 1960 as amended to 2019, which is now available in English and Samoan.

Sri Lanka

The Constitution of 1978 received another major amendment by the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution, certified on October 29, 2020. We have added the text of the amending law in English, Sinhala, and Tamil. The consolidated text has not yet been made available.

Vanuatu

We have added the consolidated text of the Constitution of 1979/1980 as amended to 2013, in an edition of 2020.
