In March 2024, we introduced a free integration with Altmetric, a tool that tracks online attention across news outlets, blogs, websites, social media, and more. By monitoring thousands of online conversations, Altmetric highlights the societal impact of scholarly works that have Digital Object Identifiers (DOI). Many of you have asked for a way to refine searches in the Law Journal Library to focus on articles with a DOI. We’re excited to announce that this new facet is now available! You can now easily locate articles with DOIs and explore their Altmetric insights.
Using the New DOI Facet
Within the Law Journal Library, run a search for “artificial intelligence” using the one-box search. From the results page, use the faceting tool on the left-hand side and select Digital Object Identifier.
Within the tool, select DOI: Yes to display any articles that include a Digital Object Identifier.
Next, sort the results page to Number of Times Cited by Articles. Within results find the Altmetric badge listed to the right of the ScholarCheck metrics.
NOTE: For an Altmetric badge to display, an article must have a DOI and at least one mention from an external source. These badges are updated daily.
Select the Altmetric badge from the first result to access the Altmetric Attention Score page for that article. The Summary tab provides general information about the article and includes a visual representation of the locations of users sharing the content, such as those from X (formerly known as Twitter) and Mendeley readers.
About Altmetric
Altmetric is part of Digital Science, an AI-focused technology company that tracks where published research is mentioned online. Altmetrics are a simple and effective way of understanding who is engaging with research online and what they’re saying. The Altmetric data gathered allows users to track anything from articles to software packages, using a broad range of scholarly identifiers that cut out the noise of traditional measurement tools.
What’s new in Altmetric
A new Timeline feature has been added to the summary of an Altmetric badge. This timeline visualizes the attention an article receives over time from various external sources. Each line on the timeline is color-coded to correspond with its source, such as blogs, X posts, and more.
