New Feature: Control Your Institution’s Popular Databases

2 MIN READ

This summer marked a major milestone for HeinOnline. In June, we rolled out a completely reimagined platform, one that is smarter, sleeker, faster, and more accessible than ever before. You explored. You engaged. And most importantly, you shared your feedback.

At HeinOnline, many of our most impactful enhancements are born directly from customer suggestions, and this year has been no exception. We’re committed to building tools with the library community, not just for it, and this latest upgrade is a perfect example. Keep reading or watch this short video to learn more!

A Homepage That Puts Your Institution First

Until now, the HeinOnline homepage automatically displayed the most-accessed databases across our entire platform under Popular Databases. But no two libraries are alike, and your community’s needs aren’t the same as anyone else’s.

So why should your homepage be?

We’re thrilled to introduce customizable Popular Databases, a brand-new feature that lets you transform your HeinOnline homepage into a truly personalized experience. Whether you’re highlighting new subscriptions, drawing attention to key research collections, or showcasing the databases that matter most to your faculty and students, you decide what takes center stage.

Why This Matters

Your library has a mission. Your users have expectations. And your digital resources should support both.
Customizable Popular Databases gives you the flexibility to:

  • Showcase new subscriptions and build excitement around fresh content
  • Feature your most valuable or most-used databases
  • Tailor your homepage to faculty and student needs
  • Guide users toward the resources that matter most

No more one-size-fits-all homepage. Whether you’re a community college spotlighting programs, a law school elevating core research materials, or an academic library emphasizing interdisciplinary collections, your HeinOnline can now be as unique as the community you serve.

How to Choose Favorite Databases for Your Institution

Librarians and administrators can customize Popular Databases right through MyHein, and the process takes just a few minutes.

If you are a dedicated admin or librarian for your institution, visit the MyHein LibGuide to locate the Popular Databases section. Within this section, you will find the Popular Databases Administrator Request form.

NOTE: To choose your institution’s Popular Databases, you will need a MyHein account. Be sure that you use the same email address associated with your MyHein account when completing the form.

Once a HeinOnline Support team member approves your request, simply log in to your MyHein account, and you’ll see a new Popular Databases menu option available. Star the databases you want to highlight and choose Submit Popular Databases.

Next, return to your welcome page to see your homepage update instantly. This change will apply to everyone who signs in under your institution’s subscription. That’s it. No complex setup. No tech support needed. Just a simple, powerful way to shape your users’ experience.
