DEAR VALUED CUSTOMER,
We hope you’re staying true to your resolutions and enjoying all the excitement that comes with a new year.
February is a month dedicated to observing African American history and it celebrates the achievements of Black Americans while recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. February was specifically chosen because it celebrates the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, both of whom greatly impacted the lives of African Americans. As we take this time to reflect upon our nation’s history, we encourage our readers to study this important topic. Resources available in HeinOnline include journals on a multitude of related topics, as well as Slavery in America and the World: History, Culture & Law, which contains essential legal materials on slavery in the United States and the English-speaking world.
The Law Journal Library continues to grow with the addition of 11 new journals this month and will continue to grow with the forthcoming addition of thirteen new titles from John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The Legal Classics Library recently surpassed 13,000 titles with the addition of 225 new titles, more than 40 titles were added to Taxation & Economic Reform in America Parts I & II, and 27 new titles were added to Religion and the Law. Altogether, more than 1,700 titles have been added to various databases in HeinOnline, which are noted in this month’s content release.
The fourth update to the Serial Set is now available, which includes more than 345 volumes and 308,000 pages of content! More than 86% of the Serial Set is currently available in HeinOnline or via HathiTrust Digital Library.
Volume XLII of Annals of Air and Space Law is now available in HeinOnline via the McGill Institute of Air and Space Law Publications database. The Annals of Air and Space Law is a journal produced and published by the Institute and Centre of Air and Space Law, Faculty of Law, McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
We are always increasing the value of a HeinOnline subscription, and are pleased to announce that we will be expanded our existing agreement with John Wiley & Sons, Inc.! HeinOnline currently has eight Wiley journals available and will be expanding the relationship to include an additional 13 titles. These titles will be added at no added cost and are expected to be available within the next couple of months.
We recently announced that we are excited to include major enhancement to our existing and long-standing partnership with Brill Publishing. In the upcoming months, Hein will offer subscriptions to the Brill | Nijhoff Current Content Collections, which will provide access to the most recent 3 volumes of almost sixty periodicals and yearbooks. As we did previously, we will continue to offer access to the Brill | Nijhoff archival content with a three-year moving wall. As a result, we are now able to offer Brill’s worldwide customer base the option to access the entire history of this highly prestigious list in international law. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.
Thanks to a suggestion from a HeinOnline user, ScholarCheck statistics inside a document are no longer initially found in a pop-up box. The pop-up box blocked some text in the table of contents, and we agreed with the user that this information could be displayed more effectively. A color-coding system has also been applied to differentiate the various statistics.
In September of 2017, natural language processing and machine learning tools were applied the Law Journal Library. These tools enabled us to extract topics from all articles in HeinOnline. Topics were previously available as a metadata search facet and through the More Like This, and but topics are now exposed for all articles within search results.
A new video is now available featuring Brent Bernau, Collection Development Librarian at the Legal Research Center of University of San Diego, San Diego, CA.
