Additional Information: This work, first written in French and published in Holland in 1771, is considered the best treatise on the English Constitution. Ironically, it was written by a foreigner who lived in England for only a few years prior to the release of the French edition. Book I is a survey of the various powers included in the English Constitution, and of the Laws both in civil and criminal cases. Book II is a view of the advantages of the English Government, and of the rights and liberties of the people; and a confirmation, by reference to facts, of the principles stated in the work.
