Help, I Need Somebody! Where Users Can Locate Help Resources in HeinOnline

Here at HeinOnline, we strive to give you the best research experience possible. From live chat to LibGuides, we are always looking for ways to provide help to our customers. In this post, we’re going to make sure you’re aware of all the support avenues available in HeinOnline.

1. Search Help

The stationary search bar in HeinOnline contains a Search Help link that will come in handy if you need help constructing a search query.

Click the link to be directed to a guide that contains available Boolean operators with related search examples. For more experienced researchers, a link to our Advanced Search Syntax Guide is also available within this guide.

2. Knowledge Base

HeinOnline’s Knowledge Base contains hundreds of videos and articles. It is full-text searchable, and each article is categorized for easy browsing. Six popular categories appear on the Knowledge Base homepage, and others are accessible by clicking them from within search results. Our Knowledge Base covers a wide range of topics, from how to construct a search to database-specific tools.

3. LibGuides

Users can find links for LibGuides directly within a database. Simply follow the breadcrumb trail at the top of the page. If no link to a LibGuide is present, don’t worry; LibGuides are being written for every existing database in HeinOnline and links will be added when a guide is available.

Our LibGuides feature database-specific content, search tips, tools, features, training materials, and more to give users of all backgrounds easy access to database knowledge and interface functionality. As an added bonus, our LibGuides are configured so libraries can feature our LibGuides directly on their website.

4. YouTube Channel

Are you a visual learner? Users can find a link to our YouTube channel under the Connect option in the upper right-hand corner of any page in HeinOnline.

Our YouTube channel contains various videos on searching, browsing, and special tools and features of HeinOnline. This ever-growing collection also contains videos on how to research specific topics, including current events.

5. HeinOnline Blog

Learn all about our new features and tools, or master how to research current or historical events using HeinOnline with our weekly blog posts. To be directed to our blog, navigate to the HeinOnline Blog option under the Help section in the upper right-hand corner of any page in HeinOnline.

6. Live Chat

Can’t locate a document? Having trouble constructing a search query? HeinOnline gurus are just a click away! From within HeinOnline, users will see a Live Chat option available in green. Click the tab and fill out the form provided to be connected with one of our support team members. Our team is available for chat Monday through Friday from 7:30am – 5:00pm ET.

Maybe you’re old school and prefer picking up the phone to speak with someone. Our dedicated support staff is also available via phone Monday through Friday from 7:30am – 6:00pm ET.
