VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN REAUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2013 A LEGISLATIVE HISTORY OF PUBLIC LAW NO. 113-4

Item #: 1000465

Pages: 5v.
Published: Getzville; William S. Hein & Co., Inc.; 2014.

In 1994, Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act, which addressed the problem of domestic and sexual violence; it was subsequently reauthorized in 2000 and 2005. By 2012, the Act was being criticized for its emphasis on policing rather than on job training and support for women who had left abusive partners. Also, the reauthorization bills introduced in 2012 and 2013 became the focus of partisan politics because of proposals to add extended coverage to LGBT individuals and to give Native American tribal authorities jurisdiction over sex crimes involving non-native Americans on tribal lands-the reauthorization bill wasn't passed until 2013. This compilation includes the text of the 2013 act, versions of the enacted bill, related bills from both the 112th and 113th Congresses, and related congressional reports and hearings. It also includes congressional debate from both Congresses that considered reauthorization bills and Congressional Budget Office reports.
