The inns of court and chancery in their heyday (between themid-14th and mid-17th centuries) were one of the largest andmost influential law schools in the history of the world,whose teaching was in a real sense law. Yet changes incharacter of the common law and its study have placed itslearning largely beyond reach for the last 300 years. Thisbook is the culmination of research - over many years andtwo continents - for texts of the lectures delivered in thatlaw school, and of notes derived them. The first partcontains tables of readers for each of the inns, withreferences to what is known about their lectures and briefbiographies. The second part is a bibliography of nearly2,000 texts, mostly manuscripts dating between 1400 and1700. While there will inevitably be omissions in such awork, it is hoped that it will open up the further study...
