John Lansing, together with Robert Yates and AlexanderHamilton, attended the Constitutional Convention asdelegates from New York. About 1904 his notes werediscovered among his papers by his heirs, and were notpublished until 1939, providing a rich new primary sourcerecord for scholars of the Convention. The notes wereapparently intended for his private use only, and do notappear to have been altered or revised by him. Only inLansing's notes do we find a report of two Constitutionalquestions regarding states rights and sovereignty, anexplanation of Charles Pinckney's plan for the Senate, andan exceptionally careful presentation of Hamilton's speecheson individual and states rights.Reprinted by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd.Distributed by William S.
