An appealing compilation of Burke's principal works,including On the Causes of the Present Discontents (1770),which treats the expulsion of Wilkes from Parliament and thevalue of political parties, the speech on On Conciliationwith the American Colonies (1775), which supported the causeof the colonists, and Reflections on the Revolution inFrance (1790), a classic criticism of the revolution and itsactors. Burke is considered a founder of modernconservatism. This is true to some extent, but not quite.He believed in popular government and recognized theinevitability of change.
