Cooper, a chemist andlawyer by training, was a polymath who published books onlaw, political science, economics, medicine and the naturalsciences. A friend of Joseph Priestley and Thomas Jefferson,he was a professor of chemistry at Dickinson College and theUniversity of Pennsylvania.
