Reprint of the first edition. Sir Robert Brooke was renownedfor his great learning and probity as a judge. His Abridge-ment is based on Fitzherbert's Abridgement, but it containsmuch new material. In all, Brooke abridged nearly 21,000cases and digested them alphabetically under 404 headings. It abridges fully the Year Books of Henry VII and HenryVIII. Brooke proceeded with great care and accuracy, and isbelieved to have had access to the original records of theYear Books. Coke calls the Abridgement "a worthy and painfulwork and an excellent repertory or table for the Year Booksof the Law." This edition is superior to earlier printings,in which abbreviations are freequently unintelligible. Cokecited in Marvin, Legal Bibliography (1847) 151-52.
