LAW LIBRARY 1833-1860

The first step in the direct line of development of themodern legal encyclopedia was taken in 1833, with thepublication of volume 1 in the Law Library set. Published in1860, this series of 104 volumes consisted of reprints ofleading English treatises and aspired to cover everyimportant topic of English law. Like modern legalencyclopedias, it is characterized by its comprehensivenessand textual form. This set is a true "gem" for any in-depthresearch library (adapted from Hicks, Materials:266).
