Highlights of the Past Month

Hein Has Acquired Current Index to Legal Periodicals

We are pleased to announce that William S. Hein & Co., Inc. & HeinOnline has acquired the rights to the University of Washington Gallagher Law Library’s Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP). This publication was recently suspended in Fall 2019, but we are now actively working on reinstating the product. Stay tuned for a blog post about this exciting new acquisition!

New Tool in the U.S. Congressional Serial Set

For more than a year, we’ve been releasing the enormous U.S. Congressional Serial Set digitally in phases, averaging more than a quarter-million pages each month. While we steadily progress toward completing this project, we’ve decided it was time to make the Serial Set even easier to navigate by adding a new Citation Lookup Tool and two new access points for information about the resource. Additionally, in the past month alone, more than 400 volumes and more than 280,000 pages were added to this essential database!

Updates to State Constitutions Illustrated

Back in November, we released a new database, State Constitutions Illustrated, containing nearly 9,000 current and historical constitutions for all fifty states. This database is the most comprehensive state constitution research platform available, and includes an extensive collection of pre-statehood primary material. It also contains original and consolidated texts heavily annotated with references to case law. In just three short months, we enhanced this new database by updating constitutional material for 16 states!

Two New States Fully Indexed in Session Laws Library

The Session Laws Library indexing project continues: all 50 states are already indexed to the chapter or act level from 2000 to date. In 2017, we announced an amended tactic: states would be indexed back to inception one at a time, beginning with the most accessed states. Last month, the indexing for West Virginia and Connecticut was completed back to inception.

Indian Law Reporter Now Available

The number one source for American Indian case law is finally available in HeinOnline! This is a comprehensive and unique source that reports cases—primarily in full-text format—from federal, state, and tribal courts, as well as administrative agencies. It is an essential resource for every individual, agency, government, and other institution that needs to keep abreast of developments in Indian law. Access this resource in the American Indian Law Collection.

Featured Resource: Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals

This month, we’re offering a free 30-day trial* to Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals (IFLP). Hosted in HeinOnline, IFLP is the preeminent multilingual index to articles and book reviews appearing in nearly 600 legal journals published worldwide. IFLP provides in-depth coverage of not only international law, but also U.S. law, comparative law, common law, civil law, and more.

We Celebrated Black History Month and Presidents Day

In the United States, we mark two important observances in February—Black History Month and Presidents Day. To reflect on Black History Month, we gave users five easy ways to start researching the struggles and achievements of African Americans. To celebrate Presidents Day, we took a look at some of the most famous (and infamous) executive orders in U.S. history.

Major Database Updates

The Law Journal Library continues to grow with the addition of 10 new titles. 133 new titles were added to GAO Reports and Comptroller General Decisions. An additional 148 new titles were added to Legal Classics, as well. History of International Law was updated to include 83 new titles, while 48 were added to World Constitutions Illustrated.
