New Feature: Customized Email Alerts for Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals (IFLP)

HeinOnline’s Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals (IFLP) database is an interactive online version of AALL’s Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals, the preeminent multilingual index to articles and book reviews appearing in more than 800 legal journals worldwide. To make this product even more beneficial to our users, we created our newest feature: IFLP Alerts! Check out this quick tutorial or keep reading for more information on how to set up IFLP Alerts.

All About IFLP Alerts

IFLP Alerts allow individuals to tailor custom alerts delivered via email as a personalized supplement to the monthly IFLP issue. Users may create alerts based on more than 100 topics, 300 regions, 300 country subjects, 800 journals, and 30 languages. After setting up an IFLP Alerts Profile, users will begin to receive these alerts via email, on the first Monday of each month. If the full text of an article is available in HeinOnline’s Law Journal Library, a direct hyperlink will be provided. In addition, all entries are available through the IFLP database.

  • Tailored email alerts include direct hyperlinking to HeinOnline’s Law Journal Library when available
  • Delivered to your inbox on the first Monday of each month
  • Ability to manage profiles on behalf of your faculty or staff

How to Set up IFLP Alerts

With a subscription to Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals, users can sign up for IFLP Alerts directly from the database homepage. Simply select the Create New IFLP Alert User option.

Next, enter your institutional email address. From the IFLP Alert Form, enter your name and select your preferences for alerts, which cover topics, regions, country subjects, journals, and languages. Expand each facet to see the available metadata to choose from. Once you have finished filling out the form, create your profile.

IFLP alerts will be sent the first Monday of each month and include links to the entries in the IFLP database as well as direct links to the full text of the article if available on HeinOnline.

How to Manage IFLP Alerts

Users can manage these alerts directly from their MyHein profile. The IFLP Alert Portal will be displayed within a user’s MyHein profile if they used the same email address to sign up for both features.

From here, deselect alerts, or add additional alerts to update your profile settings. Select the update button once your selections have been made.

What’s more, individuals can sign up to become IFLP Admins, so they can manage their faculty or staff’s IFLP Alerts for them. When signed into MyHein, the admin portal will display all the IFLP Alerts available for their institution.

Produced by the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), the Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals (IFLP) is the preeminent multilingual index to articles and book reviews appearing in more than 800 legal journals published worldwide. It provides in-depth coverage of public and private international law, comparative and foreign law, and the law of most jurisdictions in 26 languages. The only available multilingual legal journal index, Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals also analyzes the contents of selected individually published collections of legal essays, Festschriften, Mélanges, and congress reports each year.

Search IFLP by keyword or by various metadata points, including author, country, subject, title, and more. Keyword searching is available in multiple languages.

Browse all indexed records by subject (available in four languages), country, region, or publication title. Alternatively, choose to browse the print edition.

Links to the full text of nearly 80,000 indexed records are available in HeinOnline. Easily identify available documents when searching or browsing IFLP.

Enable ISSN or ISBN linking to connect indexed records to your local library catalog or WorldCat. Enable OpenURL linking to link directly to resources available in your library.

About the Editors

Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals is compiled and edited by the staff at Berkeley Law Library at the University of California, and published in conjunction with the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) and HeinOnline. As such, all indexing has been completed by a wide array of trained individuals, including lawyers and law librarians from Berkeley Law Library as well as from around the world. As the General Editor of the Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals (IFLP), I am excited to announce – IFLP Alerts. This new monthly subscriber service will allow researchers to create profiles based on their subject or regional interests, language, and other criteria and receive an email alerting them to new articles from the legal journals indexed in IFLP.
