We are proud to announce that HeinOnline is now officially a KBART-endorsed vendor! Not sure what KBART is? It stands for “Knowledge Bases and Related Tools” and is a National Information Standards Organization (NISO) Recommended Practice for the communication of electronic resource title list and coverage data from content providers to knowledge base suppliers. In simpler terms, it helps ensure that all of the correct data is in place for HeinOnline’s content to be accessible and discoverable within libraries.
The Importance of KBART
Did you know that approximately 40% of full-text usage on publisher sites is driven by library databases? That means it is extremely important for those databases to be able to understand content. This is done through OpenURL link resolvers, which utilize knowledge base title data provided by publishers to access and categorize content. When data is available in a consistent and accurate format, these resolvers are able to function efficiently and effectively, meaning that library users can easily access the content that they are looking for.
KBART in HeinOnline
Each database in HeinOnline includes unique URLS to download titles listings in KBART format (.csv and .txt). These files are updated monthly and provide a uniform structure that can be relied upon to support library link resolvers and electronic resource management systems for content discovery in library settings. A comprehensive list of downloadable title listings for HeinOnline databases is publicly accessible in our Knowledge Base.
To find the KBART listings for an individual database, select the More Information icon next to the database name in the upper-left-hand corner of the page. Within the pop-up box, you will find links to KBART title listings for download:
You can also find these listings within the database’s dedicated informational page on HeinOnline’s website.
