New Content Now Available in American Law Institute Library

3 MIN READ

We’re excited to announce that additional continuing learning content from the partnership between the American Law Institute (ALI) and the American Bar Association (ABA) is now available in HeinOnline’s American Law Institute Library! Originally, nine of these titles previously existed in a subcollection called ALI-CLE. However, with this update, we have added approximately 170 new titles—at no added cost to subscribers! Keep reading to learn more about this content and how you can access it.

The ALI and ABA Partnership

The American Law Institute was founded in 1923 by a group of American judges, lawyers, and law professors interested in clarifying the fundamental principles of common law, which could often be complex, and to decrease variations in interpretations of the law across jurisdictions.

However, by the 1940s, America was distracted by World War II, and when lawyers returned from the battlefields of Europe back to their law offices in the states, they struggled to adjust to all that had changed in the field and in the world during their time abroad. To help fill the gap in legal knowledge, those in the legal profession began to request programs for continuing education. In 1947, the American Bar Association approached the ALI to create a national continuing education program—this would become ALI-ABA, or the American Law Institute – American Bar Association Committee on Continuing Professional Education. Over the years, this program would include literature, lectures, panelists, and publications dedicated to continued legal learning. The ALI-ABA partnership ended in 2012, but both organizations continue to produce CLE materials.

About the Subcollections

Now, users will find that the ALI-CLE subcollection in the American Law Institute Library has been replaced by two new subcollections: ALI-ABA Books and ALI-ABA Periodicals. Between these two subcollections, there are approximately 170 new titles, including:
