Was the transition to remote work unprecedented, and a little uncertain? Absolutely. However, as we look back over the past few weeks, we’re very lucky to say that it hasn’t changed HeinOnline operations in the least. Whether we’re at home or in the office, we will continue to provide the informational material, tools and features, customer service, and new content that you’ve come to expect from Hein.

Highlights of the Past Month

Our Criminal Justice Database Got a Makeover

For the past few months, the HeinOnline production team worked tirelessly to incorporate a massive update into one of our most popular databases, Criminal Justice in America. The unprecedented breadth of criminal justice and criminology content included in this addition (more than 2 million pages) led us to completely reorganize the database, subject-code the material, and give the collection a new and improved name more reflective of its new and improved content. Individuals and Institutions Can Now Edit Author Profiles

HeinOnline’s Author Profile Pages have long been an essential feature for showcasing the scholarly work of HeinOnline authors. Many have asked us for the ability to edit their own author profiles, or the author profiles of faculty at their institution. We’re pleased to announce that we’ve now added these two features for your convenience. Check out this blog post to get started.

HeinOnline’s BLASE Received the 2020 AALL Joseph L. Andrews Legal Literature Award

The Joseph L. Andrews Legal Literature Award recognizes a significant textual contribution to legal literature. After recently amending their requirements to allow the submission of online products, AALL has chosen HeinOnline’s Business and Legal Aspects of Sports and Entertainment (BLASE) for this prestigious award! A comprehensive resource for sports and entertainment law, BLASE features thousands of topic-coded articles and hundreds of topic-coded cases, as well as government documents, court decisions, and informative scope notes from the editors.  Learn more about the database here.


HeinOnline Integrated with NoodleTools

As HeinOnline becomes increasingly vital to the general academic arena, we continue to honor our oldest and most important mission—to provide the best customer service in the industry. This means listening to the needs and wants of our customers, especially as the customer base expands. To enhance the research experience for all HeinOnline users—and particularly high schools, colleges, and universities—we’re excited to announce that we’ve integrated with NoodleTools, a popular online research management platform designed for any level of research experience. Read up on the integration in this recent blog post.

World Constitutions Illustrated Received Another Massive Update

Back in January, we updated researchers on the content that was released in the World Constitutions Illustrated database from October 2019 to January 2020. Since then, we’ve enhanced the database further with updates to 17 countries and the addition of 71 new titlesCheck out this blog post to find out what documents were added to this ever-growing resource.

Significant Addition to Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals

This month, more than 4,200 articles were added to HeinOnline’s Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals (IFLP) database with the addition of issue 2019:3. This database is the preeminent multilingual index to articles and book reviews appearing in nearly 600 legal journals published worldwide. Learn more about this database here.

HeinOnline’s U.S. Congressional Serial Set Expanded

In the past month alone, nearly 250,000 pages were added to HeinOnline’s digitized U.S. Congressional Serial Set. In addition, 34 titles relating to the impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump were included. Investigate the passage of the Defense Production Act with our most recent Secrets of the Serial Set, a blog series dedicated to unveiling the wealth of material hidden in this essential historical resource.


New Issue of Preview of United States Supreme Court Cases

In light of ongoing concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court of the United States has decided to hear oral arguments during May by telephone conference. This argument session will include select cases originally scheduled for argument during March and April. We are pleased to offer this special edition of ABA Supreme Court Preview for this May argument Session. Volume 47, Issue 7 addresses several Supreme Court cases concerning trademark law, free speech, healthcare & religious freedom, Indian law, and congressional authority. Learn more about this database here.


Major Database Updates

We’ve added a ton of content to some of our most popular HeinOnline databases! Check out the most substantial additions this month:

  • The Law Journal Library continues to grow with the addition of 10 new journals, while one new title was also added to Bar Journals.
  • The U.S. Congressional Documents database now includes 1,413 new titles.
  • Legal Classics Library was updated to include 162 new titles.
  • 120 titles were added to GAO Reports and Comptroller General Decisions.
  • An additional 37 titles were added to History of International Law.
  • Taxation & Economic Reform in America Parts I & II now includes 37 new titles, as well.
  • Finally, the U.S. Congressional Serial Set continues to grow with the addition of 34 new titles and nearly 250,000 pages.
